Oakbank Easter Racing Carnival: Young Members Marquee

This weekend was the Easter long weekend, and subsequently I decided to head up to the iconic Oakbank Easter racing carnival to partake in an Easter tradition. There are many different ways to enjoy the event; however, this year I decided to do the young members marquee package.  The package, which costs $130, includes transport to and from the venue, admission to the racecourse, eight beverage vouchers, nibbles and lunch and centre of the track marquee with a DJ.  The marquee is conveniently located beside the finish line which creates a great atmosphere where the majority of race goers congregate to watch whether their bets have been successful. The marquee also turned out to be very beneficial as a safe haven from the cold and the grey clouds that threatened to rain on us the whole day.

Whilst the Young Members marquee provided a great location and shelter from the weather, it failed to open on time in the morning which left numerous people stuck waiting hungrily in the cold for the brunch promised to us upon arrival. As we were left waiting to enter the marquee for up to an hour, I couldn’t help but feel that I could have used that time to get some extra sleep, as we had to get to Victoria racecourse by 8:30am to catch the buses. Nevertheless, aside from their tardiness in opening the marquee on time, the Young Members Marquee package provided for a good day for all and I would recommend it to anyone looking to enjoy the races trackside without having to appoint a ‘deso’ (aka designated driver).

The Edinburgh Hotel & Cellars
High Street, Mitcham

In contrast to my previously blogged about clubs, The Edinburgh Hotel & Cellars (referred to as ‘The Ed’ by the locals) is a low key pub that has risen through the ranks to become one of Adelaide’s most popular pubs, especially on a Tuesday night. The atmosphere is relaxed, the drinks are cheap and the DJ’s play quality house music. So if you ever thought it wasn’t worth going out on a Tuesday night before, think again. This establishment provides a great atmosphere to catch up with friends over a few ‘bevies’ or a bottle of wine. The famous beer garden makes it a great location for a summer night; however, less desirable during the winter months as the swarms of people who usually flock to The Ed prefer to stay home and out of the cold. If you're ever looking for something to do on a Tuesday night, I highly recommend trying out The Ed!
